Strength Training Essentials for Physiotherapists Level 1: Injury Rehabilitation, consists of online modules + an in person practical workshop, and equips health and fitness professionals with the knowledge and skill to integrate strength training principles seamlessly into their patient's injury recovery.

During this workshop, you will gain invaluable insights into the vital role strength training plays in optimising and consolidating your patient’s injury recovery. Delivered by John Contreras (APA Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist and Strength & Conditioning Coach) you will learn how to design and coach a strength training program that will facilitate your patient’s recovery, develop their health literacy, improve their movement skill and progress their strength. This workshop will guide you through the clinical reasoning, design and implementation of a comprehensive strength training and athletic development program for a range of common musculoskeletal presentations.

By exploring current rehabilitation and injury management guidelines, evidence-based exercises, concepts of exercise prescription and program design you will examine the role strength training plays within today’s model of healthcare. This course looks beyond the initial phases of injury management to examine the use of strength training for a range of common musculoskeletal presentations in facilitating return to activity.

You will be guided through a number of online modules discussing the latest evidence base for injury prevention and management, motor learning and strength training exercises. Exercise technique and adaptations for different clinical populations and performance goals, clinical indications and their coaching is also discussed. You will then complete a practical, face to face workshop that covers the coaching and adaptation of a range strength & conditioning exercises suitable during injury rehabilitation as well as exploring the programming of strength training exercises for various clinical presentations.

This workshop is targeted to all health and fitness professionals routinely involved in the use of exercise therapy. This includes new and recent graduates, through to the experienced clinician looking to refresh their approach. All health and fitness professionals, students and new graduates are welcome.

John is an APA Sports & Exercise Physiotherapists who graduated from The University of Melbourne in 2001. He completed a Master of Exercise Science (Strength & Conditioning) in 2011 from Edith Cowan University and a Master of Sports Physiotherapy from Latrobe University in 2016.
